The history on the gay, lesbian, and bisexual theatre was a something that I ended up enjoying. I was also amazed on how much I learned from this reading as well. In the early years, sexuality was depicted through stereotypes. For gay people, males were seen with "flamboyant effeminates", "destructive decandents", or "curable hypersensitives" while lesbians were depicted as "predatory", "doomed", or both. As the plays evolved so did the content of the plays. In the 1968 play The Boys in the Band, played upon the concept "only happy homosexual is a dead homosexual" which is probably where most of the sad endings to gay movies originated from. By 1975 the first gay revues for general audience was established through flashy commercial enterprise such as In Gay Company. Feminist Theatres inspired lesbian ensembles to make more plays opening up about the problems lesbians face in their society.
